The bush-hammered stone finish is produced with specialized hammering heads fitted with multiple pointed carbide tools. Repeated controlled impacts chip the face of the stone and create a rough, cratered and non-reflective texture. The depth and density of the pattern can be adjusted according to the selected tool, processing speed and stone properties.
A bush-hammered surface is generally rougher than a standard sandblasted finish and can provide increased grip. It also gives natural stone a strong, visibly textured appearance suitable for architectural and landscape applications.
Bush-hammered stone is commonly used for exterior paving, pavements, courtyards, ramps, stairs, building façades and areas exposed to rain or snow. Suitability depends on stone type, thickness, climate and installation method. Slip resistance and freeze–thaw performance should be confirmed when required by the project.
