The flamed stone finish is created by exposing the stone surface to an intense, controlled flame. Rapid heating causes certain surface minerals to expand and detach, producing a rough, textured and non-reflective finish. Water cooling or another controlled cooling method may be used depending on the production system.
Flaming is mainly suitable for dense crystalline stones that respond correctly to thermal treatment, particularly many types of granite. Not every marble, limestone or natural stone can be safely flamed; unsuitable materials may crack, change color or develop an unstable surface.
Flamed stone is widely used for exterior paving, pavements, plazas, stairs, ramps, pool surrounds and building façades. Its coarse texture usually provides strong surface grip, but slip resistance, frost performance and material suitability should still be confirmed for each project.
