What Is Vanak Limestone?

Vanak Limestone is an Iranian natural stone extracted from the Vanak quarry area in Isfahan Province. It is recognized for its relatively uniform light cream or beige color, compact structure and workable limestone composition.

Natural variations in tone, fossils and mineral markings may occur between blocks. These differences are part of the stone’s geological structure and should be reviewed through physical samples before confirming a large order.

How Is Vanak Limestone Brushed & Tumbled Produced?

The production of Vanak Limestone Brushed & Tumbled combines two separate mechanical treatments. Each stage affects a different part of the finished product.

Brushed surface processing

During brushing, rotating abrasive brushes pass across the face of the stone. The brushes gradually remove softer particles and produce a light surface texture without creating a polished reflection.

Tumbled edge processing

After the pieces have been cut and brushed, smaller tiles or paving units are placed in tumbling equipment. Controlled movement gently softens corners and edges. The process creates minor edge variation and a relaxed, naturally worn appearance.

Tumbling is normally applied to cut pieces rather than full-size slabs. For this reason, the final dimensions, edge variation and acceptable surface range should be approved before mass production.

Exterior Use and Slip Resistance

A brushed and tumbled finish can provide more grip than a polished surface, but it should not be described as completely slip-proof. Suitability for wet areas depends on the actual surface texture, slope, drainage, maintenance and project-specific slip testing.

For exterior installation, the project team must also consider water absorption, climate, freeze–thaw exposure, stone thickness, installation system and batch-specific test reports. A compatible breathable sealer may help reduce water and stain absorption, but it does not make limestone waterproof.

Installation and Maintenance

• Approve representative samples before ordering the complete quantity.
• Use an adhesive and grout suitable for natural limestone.
• Provide movement joints and effective drainage where required.
• Use a neutral-pH cleaner designed for natural stone.
• Avoid vinegar, acidic detergents and aggressive chemical cleaners.

Are tumbled edges completely uniform?

No. Small variations in corners and edges are an intentional result of tumbling. The acceptable range should be confirmed through samples.

Can it be supplied as large slabs?

Brushed slabs may be produced, but tumbling is generally applied after slabs are cut into smaller tiles or architectural pieces.

Does the finish require sealing?
