Gohare Limestone Polished: Iranian Cream Limestone
Gohare Limestone Polished is a high-quality Iranian natural stone with a smooth, glossy surface and a light cream-to-beige background. It is extracted from the Gohare quarry near Khorramabad in Lorestan Province, western Iran. Its balanced color, fine structure and good workability make it suitable for interior flooring, wall cladding, stairs and custom CNC elements.
The polished surface improves light reflection and brings greater clarity to the natural background of the stone. For this reason, Gohare Limestone Polished is frequently specified for residential, commercial and hospitality projects that require a bright and coordinated interior appearance.

What is Gohare Limestone Polished?
Gohare Limestone Polished is a natural limestone processed through several controlled grinding and polishing stages. Unlike a honed finish, which has a smooth matte surface, polished limestone has a brighter and more reflective appearance.
The stone normally has a light cream, beige or slightly greyish-cream background. Natural grey fossil markings may appear in different quantities. Based on their visual concentration, the stone can be sorted into low-fossil, medium-fossil and high-fossil selections. This classification refers to appearance and does not independently determine the technical quality of the material.
Polishing process
Production begins by cutting selected quarry blocks into slabs or tiles. The pieces are then calibrated to obtain consistent thickness and a flat surface. After calibration, the stone passes through a multi-stage polishing line with progressively finer abrasive tools.
The early stages remove cutting marks and surface irregularities. Intermediate stages refine the surface, while the final stages develop the required gloss. The finished Gohare Limestone Polished has a smooth surface that improves the visibility of its cream color and natural fossil pattern.

Appearance and available sorting
- Base color: Light cream, beige or greyish cream
- Pattern: Relatively uniform, without strong continuous veins
- Natural markings: Occasional grey fossil patterns
- Surface: Smooth and reflective
- Sorting: Low-fossil, medium-fossil and high-fossil selections
Natural variation should be expected because limestone is a geological material. For large projects, approving samples from the intended production lot is recommended before manufacturing begins.
Technical properties
The following values are indicative data for Gohare limestone. Actual results can vary according to quarry section, block, production lot and laboratory method.
| Property | Indicative value | Test reference |
|---|---|---|
| Water absorption | Approximately 1.8% | ASTM C97/C97M |
| Bulk density | Approximately 2661 kg/m³ | ASTM C97/C97M |
| Porosity | Approximately 2.59% | Laboratory report |
| Compressive strength | Approximately 19.4 MPa | ASTM C170/C170M |
| Flexural strength | Approximately 12.4 MPa | Project laboratory report |
| Abrasion result | Approximately 59.31 mm | EN 14157 |
ASTM explains that ASTM C97/C97M is used to determine water absorption and bulk specific gravity of dimension stone. Additional information about natural-stone testing is available from the Natural Stone Institute.
Applications of Gohare Limestone Polished
- Interior flooring: Residential buildings, offices, hotels and commercial interiors
- Interior wall cladding: Lobbies, corridors, reception areas and staircases
- Steps and risers: Interior stair systems with project-appropriate thickness
- CNC components: Columns, cornices, frames, balusters and decorative elements
- Elevator interiors: Wall panels and flooring
- Cut-to-size production: Pieces manufactured according to project drawings

Limitations and maintenance
Like other limestones, Gohare Limestone Polished can react to acidic substances. Acidic cleaners, vinegar and aggressive chemicals should not be used. Cleaning should be carried out with a pH-neutral product formulated for natural stone.
The polished finish can become slippery when wet. Slip resistance must therefore be evaluated for the intended installation. This material is not generally recommended for permanently wet floors, industrial kitchens or highly exposed exterior paving unless a specialist has approved the installation system.
For exterior façades, cold climates or areas exposed to repeated freeze–thaw cycles, project-specific testing, drainage, suitable anchoring and an appropriate protective treatment may be required. A sealer can reduce staining and moisture penetration, but it does not make limestone completely waterproof.
Available formats and processing options
Karimi Stone can manufacture this limestone in slabs, tiles, steps and risers, strips and custom-cut components. Other surface treatments include honed, brushed, sandblasted and bush-hammered finishes.

Production and export by Karimi Stone
Negin Sang Karimi (Karimi Stone) manages the extraction, selection, processing and supply of Gohare limestone. Direct quarry access helps the company maintain organized block selection, visual sorting and continued supply for domestic and international projects.
Before packing, pieces are checked for dimensions, thickness, surface quality, edge condition and visible defects. Products can be packed in reinforced wooden crates or project-specific export packaging. Buyers can also request production according to shop drawings, packing lists and required sorting ranges.

Frequently asked questions
Is Gohare stone a limestone or marble?
It is geologically classified as limestone. It should not be presented as marble merely because it has a compact structure or accepts polishing.
Can polished Gohare limestone be used outdoors?
Exterior use depends on climate, exposure, fixing method and tested performance. Polished limestone is primarily recommended for controlled interior applications.
Does this stone require sealing?
Sealing is generally recommended where protection against moisture and staining is required. The correct sealer must be selected according to the application.
Can Karimi Stone supply custom dimensions?
Yes. Slabs, tiles, steps, risers, strips and CNC or cut-to-size elements can be manufactured according to project requirements.
