Gohare Limestone Honed
Introduction to Gohare Honed
Gohare Honed refers to Gohare Limestone processed with a honed surface finish, creating a smooth, matte, and non-reflective appearance. This finish highlights the natural character of Gohare Limestone while maintaining a calm and architectural look. Because of its neutral tone and technical stability, Gohare Honed is widely used in façade projects, interior wall cladding, and flooring applications where surface balance and light control are important.
Gohare Limestone is quarried in western Iran, in Lorestan Province near Khorramabad. With over 75 years of extraction history, this stone has become one of the most recognized Iranian limestones in both domestic and international markets. Other commercial names include Gohare Khorramabad Limestone, or Lorestan Limestone.
About Gohare Limestone
Gohare Limestone is known for its light cream to beige background, sometimes featuring gray fossil patterns. These fossils vary in intensity and are classified into low-fossil, medium-fossil, and high-fossil sorts. This classification does not indicate quality level but helps architects select the right visual tone for their projects.
Technically, Gohare Limestone offers:
-
- High density (2550–2650 kg/m³)
- Good abrasion resistance
- Strong compressive strength (1000–1500 MPa)
- Low water absorption (0.3%–0.5%)
- Controlled porosity (2.5%–3%)
- Excellent CNC cutting capability
- High resistance to freeze–thaw cycles
Because of its compact and fine-grained calcareous structure, Gohare Limestone is highly suitable for CNC carving, façade elements, decorative components, and precise architectural detailing. In dry, warm, and moderate climates, it performs with long-term stability. In colder regions with freeze–thaw cycles, waterproof coating is recommended.
Honed Finish Explanation
The honed surface is created by grinding the stone until it becomes smooth and flat, without producing shine or light reflection. In this process, polishing heads are used initially, but the final shine-producing stages are replaced with special honing abrasives. As a result, Gohare Honed maintains a smooth texture while remaining matte and non-shiny.
The main difference between polished and honed surfaces is the absence of shine. Gohare Honed provides:
- Smooth and even surface
- No shine or mirror reflection
- Low reflectivity under natural and artificial light
- More controlled and architectural appearance
- Better visual tolerance to small scratches compared to polished finishes
This makes Gohare Honed particularly suitable for large façades, interior wall cladding, corridor walls, staircases, and indoor flooring where light reflection needs to be controlled.
Applications of Gohare Honed
Thanks to its balanced tone and matte surface, Gohare Honed is commonly used in:
- Interior wall cladding
- CNC-designed building façades
- Corridor and staircase wall cladding
- Indoor flooring
- Steps and risers
- Balustrades and decorative columns
Because Gohare Limestone has good formability and high CNC capability, Gohare Honed is frequently selected for architectural façades that require precise detailing with a calm surface finish.
However, like all limestones, it is not recommended for environments with excessive water exposure such as restaurant floors or kitchen flooring.
Technical Properties of Gohare Honed
| Property | Measurement |
| Water Absorption | 0.3% – 0.5% |
| Compressive Strength | 1000 – 1500 MPa |
| Specific Weight | 2.5 – 2.8 g/cm³ |
| Abrasion Resistance | 2.5 – 6 |
| Porosity | 2.5% – 3% |
These properties show that Gohare Honed combines structural stability with suitable weight for façade use. Its density and abrasion resistance make it a reliable choice for urban architectural projects.
Why Choose Gohare Honed?
Gohare Honed offers a combination of:
- Neutral architectural color
- Matte and controlled surface
- Strong technical behavior
- Excellent CNC capability
- Suitable density for façade applications
Because it does not reflect light sharply, Gohare Honed creates a calm and professional visual impact. It works well in both classic and modern architectural styles.
